I wish I could go lower than a 1 for review score. This so called Doctor, Helms, would be better wrapping sandwiches anywhere. Unprofessional, gas-lighting. I don't even want to get started, so I will stop here. If you value your health care, do a lot of looking around. This one isn't the one!! Peace. Good Bless you and much luck. Prayers for anyone who has met this one

My husband has a pituitary tumor. Dr Helms told him he could "keep an eye on it, or seek a second opinion". Thank God we chose the later, the Dr in Roanoke couldn't believe he suggested to wait, because he could go BLIND within the year!

He was wonderful! very nice and did a GREAT job on my back. I was scared because of the Horrible stories I have heard. But I could not have asked for a better outcome. The Office staff was wonderful so nice and helpful. I had a ton of insurance forms that needed to be completed they completed with out hesitation. And even worked with me on my after insurance balance.

I know specialty and other doctors are few and far between in this area, and I know others seem to have a good experience with Dr. Helms, but I found him to be very condescending and unhelpful. I am very overweight and my weight is constantly up and down. Doctors seem to disagree whether or not I have a ruptured disc in my back. He said there is nothing he can do for me. Luckily, I have a chiropractor who helps me with the periformis muscle that goes across my sciatic nerve, tightening so much I can’t walk without assistance until it loosens up. That is something I think he could have told me. He just didn’t seem to have interest in helping me. I’m glad for the other patients who have had better luck, I think he just saw me as a fat person who needed to lose weight, which I do, but I am having nerve problems in my back that I need help with.

Dr. Helms may be one of the best neurosurgeon, however, the support staff (office) brings his ratings down to a 1 star. The the office/support staff are rude and very unprofessional. I called to request Dr.Helms or the assistant Chris Justus for my 2nd post surgery follow up and was past around to a few staff because of my request. At last, Valerie (don't know her title) insisted that I would see every was available. Had I known their unprofessional officee procedure, I would have. Gone with another provider that I interviewed for my surgery as I was told the same by the other 2 surgeon's. I chose Bristol because that is where live and hospital is only 10 minutes from my home.

66 yr old with osteoporosis getting multiple opinions but Dr Helms says exactly what the book says and he’s cordial with good eye contact, not dismissive or condescending, and he listens. No procedures to report yet but I have found an office and a surgeon I like. I was in and out in 55 minutes.

I do not recommend going to this office, Dr Jody Helms only spends like 5min or so with you and kind of dismisses your symptoms when you know or tried to explain what is going on. I took a family member there and she was crying after visit bc felt like not wanting to help her. Also the lady at check out is rude and would not make eye contact and very short speaking with us. the only nice person was the nurse that took us back to the exam room. Find another physican.
